The Focus RS was born as a high performance version of the Ford Focus compact hatchback, which was first launched back in 2002. The original version of the Focus RS was initially only available in the European market with the support of a turbocharged 2.0-liter Zetec engine and has a very aggressive design. From year to year, the Focus RS has received significant changes in both performance and design, including the most anticipated 2018 Ford Focus RS500. However, we will not talk more about the Focus RS500 in this article. Instead, let’s talk about the new upcoming Focus RS Limited Edition.
Yep, the Blue Oval Company has recently introduced the 2018 Ford Focus RS Limited Edition with some mechanical upgrades. One of the most appreciable mechanical changes is the use of Limited-Slip Differential (LSD) that is claimed to improve performance when cornering, reducing wheel spin, and improving braking ability. Thanks to this new LSD mechanical use, the tire grip level and handling stability have also improved since LSD will limit the torque delivered to the front wheels when a wheel spin occurs. Of course, this becomes a performance tuning for the Focus RS AWD system in addition to active torque vectoring.
The all-wheel drive system is intelligently integrated with Limited-Slip Differential, which ultimately can split the torque between the front and rear axles. This LSD device is specifically developed by the Global Ford Performance Team and its components are supplied by Quaife Engineering. Ford says that it’s all thanks to online feedback from the Focus RS enthusiast, who wants a LSD mechanical mounted on the 2018 Focus RS.
